Tropical Texas Behavioral Health Veteran Services are available to veterans, veteran dependents, surviving spouses and active military members in Hidalgo, Cameron and Willacy Counties who are seeking coping skills and support as they navigate civilian life.
Services Provided
- Counseling: Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
- Case Management / Peer Facilitation: Provides community resource coordination related to basic needs for Veterans and their families.
- Military Veteran Peer Center: Provides a positive, stable, social environment for veterans and their immediate families by offering a wide variety of services to include, but not limited to, access to mental health services, peer-to-peer support groups, a computer lab, laundry and shower amenities.
- Community Resource Coordination: related to basic needs (e.g., food, shelter, clothing, employment, mental health, and physical health) for veterans and their families.
- Emergency Financial Assistance for veterans, veteran dependents, surviving spouses and active military members, contingent upon:
- meeting eligibility criteria
- availability of funds
Peer-to-Peer Support Groups
Veterans helping veterans readjust to civilian life. Navigating topics such as:
- Managing Intense Emotions
- Employment Assistance and Skills Training
- Interpersonal Relationships
- Evaluation and Choice Strategies
- Mindfulness and Stress Management
- Emotional and Social Support to assist with Grief and Loss
- Social Connection and Community Engagement
Seeking Safety Treatment
Seeking Safety is a trauma-informed, evidence-based treatment designed for individuals dealing with both trauma and substance use disorders.
Core topics in Seeking Safety include:
- Grounding techniques
- Setting boundaries in relationships
- Recognizing and managing triggers
- Self-care strategies
- Building support networks
- Understanding the link between trauma and substance use
Military Veteran Peer Network (MVPN)
The Military Veteran Peer Network (MVPN) is a group of veterans and veteran family members committed to supporting service members, veterans, and their family members by offering mentorship and guidance through:
- Direct peer-to-peer support
- Training on suicide prevention and military cultural competency
- Coordination of mental health first aid
- Warm-handoffs to local resources based on the individual needs of the veteran and family
This peer network operates throughout the TTBH service area and collaborates with local partners to address veteran wellness at all points of crisis and recovery.
